The median price moved slightly up for Bodega Bay from $990,000 to $992,000 for a 12 month rolling average and from $1,052,000 to $1,053,500 in Bodega Harbour.  This median price is up from $825,000 and $949,500 respectively from 12 months ago. July saw 6 homes placed in escrow (2 in Bodega Harbour) list price from $400,000 to $1,600,000. There were 4 closings in July, (3 in Bodega Harbour) from $350,000 to $1,100,000.  1 lot was placed in escrow last month in Bodega Harbour listed at $235,000.  Total listing inventory is at 19 homes (10 in Bodega Harbour), total sales for 12 months is 74 homes of which 48 were in Bodega Harbour, up from 49/30 respectively 12 month prior.

FISH REPORT

The salmon bite was good this weekend despite the breezy conditions. Rick on the New Sea Angler reported 36 salmon for 25 anglers on a private charter on Saturday August 4. Rick said they saw a mix grade with some running 5 to 10 and many others in the 15 to 20 plus pound class. They lost several big fish trolling we believe off Salmon Creek. On Sunday August 5 Rick ran a combo trip. His 32 anglers landed full limits of rockfish adding 13 lings to 12 pounds. On the salmon front Rick said it was a slug fest. They hooked around 30 fish landing 15 salmon. Rick said the fish were just hot and full of fight and very hard to hand onto. We have not received a single private boater report is several days. Guys if you want info you have to share info.

The one interesting note is the SST off the Sonoma coast. The past week of steady wind has dropped water temps to 49 to 50 degrees at the Bodega weather buoy. Considering that this is early August sub 50 is almost unheard of. Usually this time of year we are seeing SSTs of 57 to 60+. The good news is this will set the stage for good action in the coming weeks. This late in the year upwelling with keep the food chain healthy and attract and hold salmon in the area. With all the two year old fish being found along the Central Coast we could see a strong finish to the season this fall thanks to the NW winds we have seen this past week.

A couple of days ago I had another really lucky encounter with River Otters (Lontra canadensis).  Fortunately, I had a large zoom lens on my camera and I was pretty far away in a position where the otters couldn’t see me.  These are my favorite situations, when you can observe animals’ natural behavior without disturbing them.

I cropped the photos afterwards and put together a short series of highlights.  The entire observation period was ~50 minutes total.  I’m very grateful for this special glimpse into the life of River Otters.  I hope you enjoy learning about them, too!
